Description

The renovation of 50 Hugh Street was a transformative project, combining modern upgrades with the preservation of the property’s historic charm. We carried out a complete renovation, including a two-storey extension at the rear, to create a more functional and contemporary living space.

50 Hugh Street, a period property in a vibrant city area, required significant improvements to enhance functionality while maintaining its historic appeal. The owner sought to modernize the space while preserving its character, particularly with regard to the sash windows and the limited living space created by an outdated single-storey extension.

The project came with a few challenges, including demolishing the existing extension to make room for a new two-storey build. We also had to carefully restore the original sash windows, update the roof, and add new bathrooms and kitchen facilities. Another challenge was installing modern heating and ensuring the new extension blended seamlessly with the historic structure.

We demolished the single-storey extension and replaced it with a spacious two-storey addition, providing two new bathrooms and a new kitchen. Scaffolding was erected at both the front and back of the property to facilitate roof works and the restoration of the sash windows.

Additionally, we installed a new central heating system throughout the house and completed a full interior and exterior decoration, blending contemporary updates with the home’s period features.

The renovation transformed 50 Hugh Street into a modern, functional family home, while preserving its historic charm. The two-storey extension expanded the living space, and the restored sash windows maintained the property’s character. The new heating, bathrooms, and kitchen ensure the house is both comfortable and efficient, making it a perfect blend of old and new.
